Description
Hyphessobrycon is a genus of freshwater fish in the family Characidae. These species are among the fishes known as tetras. The genus is distributed in the Neotropical realm from southern Mexico to Río de la Plata in Argentina.
Hyphessobrycon megalopterus is a very peaceful, schooling fish that comes from the regions of Central Brazil. Receiving its name from its black translucent coloring, the hardy Black Phantom Tetra is great for any community aquarium. Males of the species will have a higher dorsal fin, and display a more brilliant coloration.
H. megalopterus is one of the more popular tetras sold in the aquarium trade. they will also do fine when kept in a group of four or five individuals, making them suitable for smaller aquaria.
